More than twenty Aena airports provide social organisations with a place in their terminals free of charge, giving them the opportunity to disseminate the social causes they defend among airport users through awareness-raising, information and public awareness campaigns.

Public Relations

Strengthening communication with employees, detecting and understanding their needs, and responding to them is a priority objective for the company. In this regard, Aena provides its employees with various channels to promote continuous dialogue. These include the corporate intranet and the internal magazine Aena 360, which also reflect the most social side of our reality with more than 200 news items. Displays in some workplaces are also used to convey key messages of relevance.

Staff also have a specific email inbox where they can send suggestions, queries, etc.


Commemoration of international days

Aena makes some of its media available to public institutions and foundations, such as public information systems (SIPAS) and airport screens, to share messages of social significance.

Visits and open days


Guided Tours

Aena provides guided tours by company employees at almost twenty of its Spanish airports.

These visits are aimed at different groups, including secondary school, vocational training and university students, young people in employment programmes and children with special needs, as well as professionals from different sectors or business people participating in local forums, from more than fifty different entities. Open days for Aena staff and their families have also continued in 2023.

Humanitarian aid

Aena has continued to support vulnerable groups in humanitarian emergencies, such as those caused by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria in February, the earthquake in Morocco and the floods caused by storm Daniel in September.

Holidays in Peace Programme: several airports collaborate with various humanitarian organisations to facilitate the arrival and return of children from Sahrawi refugee camps.

Corporate volunteering

Aena has encouraged its employees to participate in volunteering activities organised by different organisations.

Sports volunteering: Promotes the participation of our employees in charity sports events and collaboration in the organisation thereof, while encouraging healthy habits and practices.

Professional volunteering: Employees get the chance to offer NGOs their job-specific professional skills according to their qualifications and occupation.

Communicating volunteering and social action opportunities. Strives to raise awareness regarding social transformation through its own communication channels, and also promotes employee participation in charity information and awareness-raising activities.

In this way, Aena aims to promote initiatives that contribute to creating a better and more responsible future, focusing particularly on caring for the more vulnerable communities in our area.

Charity markets

It has become a tradition for Aena to organise events of solidarity and charity markets so that the social entities can sell fair trade products. In 2019 these events have been carried out at airports and the Aena corporate headquarters.


Celebration of national and international commemorations

More than fifteen airports have illuminated their facilities and buildings to mark International Days.

For example, World Cancer Day, Rare Disease Day, International Women's Day, World Autism Awareness Day, International Breast Cancer Day, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, among others.

Aena with music

In total, more than €450,000 is earmarked for this partnership programme. Sponsorship programme to support the training of young artists and groups at risk of exclusion, promoting talent and bringing music to airports. Aena collaborates with the Fundació Teatro Real, Fundació Pau Casals, Fundació del Gran Teatre del Liceu and Taller de Musics Escola de Música.


Aena supporting research

The research grants programme has a maximum budget of €840,000 to be divided between three projects to be carried out over a period of 4 years.

In 2023, Aena presented the call for the "Aena with research" programme to promote research and technology transfer projects in the airport sector. The projects will be developed by research groups, teams or departments of recognised standing in their field.


Aena with society

The programme has a maximum budget of €460,000 for a total duration of 2 years, to be distributed among up to 15 projects.

Aena launched the first call for the "Aena with society" programme in 2023. The aim of this social aid is to promote social action projects with a positive and direct impact on the environment in which the Company operates, backed by Aena employees.


Universal accessibility

Aena Group airports are working to develop different measures and initiatives to guarantee the universal accessibility of its facilities.

Aena launches a badge aimed at people with invisible disabilities who have difficulties in stressful environments or environments with a lot of sensory stimulation. In addition, Aena has launched a call for applications for grants aimed at social entities with the aim of promoting the integration of people with functional diversity into the labour market. This call is endowed with €90,000.

In 2023, Aena has been recognised as a "Friend of Autism 2023" by Autismo España, a federation of entities that work specifically with people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and their families to improve their quality of life. It has also been recognised by Afanias, an organisation that promotes the integration of people with intellectual disabilities into the labour market through a four-year training cycle.

Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport is building a sensory room for people with autism spectrum disorders. Travellers with ASD will be able to wait for their flight in a safe, orderly environment with stimuli suitable for people with heightened sensory sensitivity. Throughout 2023, Aena has also continued to work to install new toilets for people with ostomies in different airports in the network through its Agreement with FAPOE (Federation of Associations of Ostomy Sufferers of Spain).
