I started working at Aena in 1996, with a work experience contract at Palma de Mallorca Airport. I was not familiar with the company, but right from the very beginning, I was fascinated by the airport and the commercial area where I was doing my internship. When the internship contract ended and I was able to be taken on, I didn't hesitate for a second: the sector and the area were perfect, and Palma airport allowed me to get to know Aena extensively. In addition, I was fortunate enough to be involved in the implementation of the current airport, which gave me a wealth of knowledge and experience.

I believe that Aena has a combination of factors that make it a very interesting company to work for. On the one hand, the airport sector contributes first-hand to the growth of one of the main drivers of the economy, tourism, and on the other hand, Aena allows you to develop your career in many areas, from the most operational, technical, commercial and financial to the most strategic. It also facilitates a high degree of functional and geographical mobility that is both professionally and humanely enriching.

The aspects I like most about my job are the search for business opportunities or the improvement of current ones, the relationship with clients and with my teams, and of course being part of the Management Committee where there are continuous challenges to improve the organisation. Some of my achievements include the transformation and commercial modernisation of the airports in the Aena network in Spain, with special emphasis on the development of retail businesses, through the incorporation of the best and most recognised brands in perfumery, fashion and catering, and their conversion into innovative, passenger-oriented spaces. Also the modernisation of Aena's own businesses such as VIP lounges and car parks, and the implementation of a modern concept of marketing and commercial development of airports that includes digitalisation as a key element.

In addition, I am particularly pleased to have led the process of participating in the tender for the management of the airports in the north-east of Brazil and the launch of the Madrid airport city project with the first logistics area.

Being in charge of a highly involved and motivated team is another challenge I am proud of.

The feeling of belonging of those of us who have developed our professional careers in Aena means that we all row in favour of the company and that we support each other and join our efforts. One of my main duties as operations manager is planning and managing the resources needed to ensure efficient, safe operation of the aircraft. The liveliness of the job is what I like the most and what motivates me every day. I have been here 16 years and during all this time new projects and challenges have continuously emerged that keep me active and motivated to continue learning and improving.

One of the main achievements I have taken part in was implementation of the A-CDM project at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport. This system enables greater efficiency in airport operations, as well as managing European airspace, as it shares updated information about aircraft departures times with Eurocontrol.

At Aena every day is a new challenge, I am surrounded by professionals with extensive experience and whose great vocation is the airport. This attitude makes the work much more enjoyable and creates a collaborative environment that helps to solve the day-to-day problems that arise.

Aena is also a company that makes its employees’ work/life balance easier with measures like flexible hours and the newly implemented teleworking policy.

My career at Aena started when the Canary Island Airports Group was newly created and I remember that first experience fondly because of the good team that was formed. It also enabled me to immerse myself in an adventure where I learned a lot. Now that I know a lot about the company, I can say that the best thing about it is that wherever I go, I encounter tremendous professionals, who are wonderful both as people and professionally.

I am currently the director at Seville Airport and my job is to ensure that the airport works in terms of security, operations and quality, while also ensuring that the team can carry out their work in the best possible conditions and comply with the company’s objectives. This is alongside setting local objectives aligned with the previous ones. This has both an internal and external dimension, whereby I need to interact with all the stakeholders of the airport. I enjoy the diverse and varied work, and I have the opportunity to meet very interesting people and acquire new experiences every day.

I started at Aena in 1995, with a work experience contract in the Economic-Administrative Division of Gran Canaria Airport. I had no knowledge of the airport sector, beyond my experience as a user, and as I got to know this world, my desire to continue grew.

Currently, I coordinate the Airport Services team. I’m in charge of planning and managing the services offered at the airport to users, passengers, airlines, concessions and operators. Our aim is to ensure that their needs are met in the activities they carry out at the airport. While it is true that human relationships are the most complex part of the job, they are also the most rewarding. To see the result of the effort of teamwork, capable of overcoming the obstacles that arise daily in management, with the desire and passion that they show and to see that we are able to satisfy our customers, both internal and external, is a great satisfaction both personally and professionally.

I believe that my greatest contribution to the company is my knowledge of the airport business from different perspectives, which undoubtedly enriches decision-making. I consider that my experience in different positions in both Aena and Aena Internacional, as well as in different areas of responsibility in different areas (economic-financial, commercial, services), gives me a very global vision that allows me to anticipate conflict, optimal resource management and coherent results.

Among my achievements, I would highlight the start-up, consolidation and success of a new airport management company abroad (Aena Internacional), with a different idiosyncrasy and heterogeneous partners. Also the planning and implementation of the commercial plan for the new terminal at Málaga Airport and the raising of awareness of non-visible disabilities for the adaptation of airport policies and infrastructures.

The strength that comes from working in a team, surrounded by good professionals, makes the result of the work more than a simple sum of effort and knowledge. My working life at Aena has been full of enriching, extraordinary and mixed experiences that have made me the person I am today.

Marga Loma del Amo

My first contact with Aena was during some summer work experience at Palma de Mallorca airport. I enjoyed it enough to consider working in the airport sector and taking part in one of the recruitment procedures organised by Aena.

I began my career in the infrastructure and central services department. The position allowed me to take part in the construction/expansion of different airports and to learn about the particular characteristics of each of them. Currently, as manager of the operations division of Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, we are working to ensure that passengers have a good experience checking in, boarding and collecting their luggage; that airlines have all the resources they need and that those resources are adequate; that emergencies are covered; and that there is planning to help us prepare the airport, together with the other divisions.

One of Aena’s strong points is that you can continuously reinvent yourself. In the years that I have been working for the company, I have changed job, area and even city, various times. Our organisation is positively predisposed towards advancement and innovation and we all take part in that challenge. Opting for Aena is a safe bet, both professionally and personally. I feel proud of many aspects of my career, but I would highlight bringing into operation the new terminals at Barajas and in Barcelona, and, currently, restoring operations following the years of the pandemic.

I joined the Aena team in 2008. Some months before that, the call to recruit engineers had come out and, at the time, Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport was carrying out construction works for expansion. My qualification as an industrial engineer, specialising in mechanics, and my professional career were strongly associated with infrastructure execution and planning, and it seemed to me that is was an exciting opportunity to take part in the start up of an infrastructure of this size and with a unique building of this kind (the new Terminal T1).

Aena is a multi-disciplinary company, where all profiles have a wide range of opportunities, whether for professional development or the possibility of broadening knowledge about other professional disciplines. It is a company that makes it easy to change jobs and skills. I feel extremely fortunate to hold a very dynamic post that lets me collaborate in the daily operations of the infrastructure and, at the same time, take part in medium to long term projects and make society aware and learn more about the airport by taking part in its promotion with the main stakeholders in the territory, and positioning the facilities as being cutting-edge in the sector.

I started working at Aena in the Information Technology and Communications department with the operation of the new Airport Management Centre (CGA). As an aeronautical engineer, I was sure that my professional interest was in airport management or airlines, so Aena was the best option to be able to develop professionally within a large airport infrastructure management company.

In my current role as head of the Operational Management department, I am in contact with the airlines to help with their business needs. I work with ENAIRE on the operational procedures and coordinate maintenance, projects and activities with a large number of the units at the airport. I like to maintain a high level of commitment to the daily challenges and the team of professionals in the company.

Another notable aspect is that Aena enables you to develop a professional career from different working perspectives, because it has different functional areas and units. Coming to work every day knowing that there will be something new is very stimulating. And I have never been denied professional development opportunities, which I am grateful for.

José Luis García García

"From a human perspective, it is very satisfying when you can solve problems faced by employees by combining their needs with those of the company."

I joined Aena in 1992, at the same time as the airport was expanding for the Olympic Games in Barcelona. I was part of the airport services department as a terminal agent, AAPUC today. I chose Aena because it seemed like an attractive company where I could develop my career. It had promotion opportunities and it wasn’t a place to just work to receive a salary. During my career, Aena has provided me with the professional growth that anyone would want.

I am currently the head of the Human Resources department at the Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, so I manage everything to do with the employees: salaries, training, selection, planning of schedules and occupational relationships with the workers representatives. The aim is to optimise the organisation of the employees, adapting the tasks to be carried out to efficiently maintain the operational activity of the airport. We are frequently faced with new regulations or changes to existing ones, so we often need to reinvent ourselves to adapt to what is expected of us. From a human perspective, it is very satisfying when you can solve problems faced by employees by combining their needs with those of the company.
